"Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Design is knowing which ones to keep"
- Scott Adams
Hello, my name is Tatyana. Or Tanya for short (and much easier to pronounce!). I'm 19 years old and I'm a first-year multimedia design and communication student at Business Academy Copenhagen North.
This site is my student portfolio. It contains information about the projects we do in class, along with some of my personal works.
I will update this portfolio at any possible moment, so watch this space for any changes!
Drawing and film are my main interests but for my university education I wanted something different and more up-to-date, like a computer-based program. So when I graduated from high school in June 2010, immediately after that I started my education in the Multimedia program at Knord.
I can say I have a lot of ideas, but the trouble is just to make them work because I'm still a beginner. Being a student here will help me reach my goals.
What else is there to say? I love foreign languages and I wish to travel as much as I can. I like cold weather and I'm an animal lover. The more you know.
And this section is for the projects we do in class.
Project #1: Portfolio
Our first project was to create a student portfolio hosted on wordpress, as well as a ftp server. I had to make some changes, but afterwards it was approved. I used this portfolio for the whole first semester.
Project #2: Flash Banners
For our second project we were working in groups and we had to use Flash to create 3 promotional banners for 1 artist or band. They must have a consistent style expression, but be variations over that theme. Approved.
Project #3: Website
Project number 3 was a group project too. It was to create a fully functional website. After my group presented it, the teachers recommended adding pages in different languages too (Danish and Spanish).
Project #4: Portfolio redesign
And last but not least, a bit about this website. It's the result of the final project of this semester. Using what I've learned in school so far, I coded, designed and hosted this current portfolio on my own server.
Project #5: Monuments
For the first project of the second semester we had make a homepage for a Danish monument of our choice. Our group chose the famous Gefion fountain, located on the Copenhagen harbour very close to The Little Mermaid.
Project #6: Visual Identity
The next project involved a lot of work on Adobe Photoshop and InDesign. The goal was tp create a visual identity (presentation, website templates, go cards and advertisements) for a fictional travel agency called Dream Tours.
Project #7: Online Survey
For this project we had to work alone on a real survey. The theme was: how do Danish people spend their time on different media on the internet. People can fill in this surbey and their answers are collected in a database.
What I learned during semester #1
What have I learned during the process?
First of all, I learned to be patient. Really, as it took me a lot of time and a lot of 'trial and error' scenarios until I get every detail right. It can be very frustrating, but luckily the final result makes it all worthwile.
Secondly, I had the chance to use Photoshop after a very long break from it. I reminded myself of some things I used to know but I had forgotten overtime, and I learned some new tricks.
How does it fit with my prior knowledge of the subject and this task type?
I learned a lot of new things during the third project of the semester (which was to develop a website) and I used them while making this one. But to be honest, it took me by surprise. When I was working on the third project I thought it was a very big step comparing to the second project (flash banners) and I was very sceptical whether I was going to succeed. But I did succeed then, so that gave me some confidence while working on my portfolio. The difference is that I had to work alone this time, so I went over what I've learned in class and during the other projects one more time.
What more do I need to learn?
I came to a conclusion that I need some more time to brush up on my coding skills. I've almsot gotten the hang of HTML and I need to learn more about CSS.
What do I do next to get to learn this?
I have to spend some more time on Dreamweaver, naturally, so I can gain more working experience with this particular software. I'm going to go through the presentations from class some more times. I can also watch a tutorial or two, as there a lot of them on the web. All kinds of additional material would be of help.
